about

Metacognition is the process of thinking about thinking. I feel like this sums up the past two years and this record pretty well. I got the shit kicked out of me more times than I can count, moved cross country twice, learned how to be alone with my thoughts, and am learning how to be loved, slowly but surely.

I've spent a long time during this hiatus thinking about what I wanted my next album to say and to sound like, and I had offers from two incredibly talented producers to produce my next record. After hearing the album Didn't It Rain by the Midwest great(s) Songs: Ohia and talking with a friend who encouraged me, however, I made up my mind. I recorded this album on my bathroom floor with a tenor ukulele my ex got me and ambient winter sounds to accompany me. The result is Metacognition as you hear it here: simultaneously skeletal, spare, dramatic, passionate, lonely, and hollow.

I refer to Jason Molina, the late, great man behind Songs: Ohia, in the first song on Metacognition, "Cross The Road". In a lot of ways, the opening lines sum up where and how I've been:

"I heard the night you left us/You cashed out in Indianapolis/with nothing but a cell phone in your pocket/I've been that haunted before/been that scared of failure before/how did I survive while you did not?"

Enjoy.
